"NightLife" is a photographic archive of the after hours Street work of one of the most compelling and illusive artist's of our time Richard Hambleton. 87 of his paintings on the street have been captured here. First printed in 1982, this now expanded version of the book captures his work seen on the streets of New York City between 1981 and 1989 (Plus two trips to Italy and Holland between 1985-1989). Along with Hambleton's work, The Photographer Franc Palaia has inadvertently documented the dark and grimy atmosphere on the streets of NYC in the 1980s. The Shadow figures he photographed blend perfectly into an environment of garbage, neglect and crime that plagued the streets of Gotham. This is the perfect addition for anyone interested in 1980's Graffiti, Street Art or Old time New York.
This is a rare book directly from the photographer available while supplies last.

Richard Hambleton ( 1952 - 2017 )
was an American-Canadian artist best known for his recurring motif of a black-silhouetted figure known as the Shadowman. Along with his contemporaries Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Hambleton painted directly on the streets of New York and achieved success during the art boom of the 1980s. “I painted the town black,” he once said. “They could represent watchmen or danger or the shadows of a human body after a nuclear holocaust or even my own shadow.”
